Defensive Scramble Drill

Here is a drill that we have done in practice to work on getting a stop even when the man on the ball has been beat. Forces players to help early and simulates game situations and rotations that are key to any defense.

I've posted a lot of shell drills on here in the past and one thing I have tried to add after reading a lot of College coaching notes is early help on the drive. In today's game more and more teams are putting the ball on the ground and driving to the basket. One thing we have added to our shells drills is a simple thing we call burn. While players are passing the ball around in your typical shell drill a coach yells burn and offensive player drives hard while his defender has to touch nearest sideline or baseline before getting back into the play.
