Setting and defending screens

We get to start basketball camp next week and I can't wait to get back to coaching some basketball. One thing that we are going to focus on this summer is setting and defending screens. I was looking through some potential drills and found this one. I think we are going to use this because of how easy it is and it being a 3 on 3 drill. I have read tons of info on coaches focusing on 3 on 3 to teach the game of basketball.

Bluejay Footwork

Great drill to add to defensive footwork. A couple of small but great changes from Greg McDermott.

VCU Ball Screens 2

Skip the first couple of minutes where they just talk about the tournament schedule.

2 on 2 Defense

Drill that can be used in a lot of different ways to fit what you are working on or what type of team you are coaching.

Transition Offensive Drill

Great drill to add to your transition work. I've been breaking down our game film by possessions and we see about 145 possessions between the two teams for an average.

10,000 Shot Club

Every year we are trying to find new things to build up interest in basketball at our school. I searched around message boards and web sites for ideas and finally settled on a 10,000 shot club. We are giving out a free T- Shirt to anyone that completes the 10,000 shots between the end of last season and next fall. Decided on doing grades 4-12 and hope we have to spend a whole bunch of money on T- Shirts. If you have any questions or comments please contact me. bmoore@plano88.org

East Carolina Fast Break Drill

Heather Macy who is the Head Girls Coach at East Carolina spoke at the Nike Clinic in the Wisconsin Dells that I went to this weekend. I thought she was one of the best presenters at the clinic and loved this drill. Her teams play fast and score a lot of points and I think this drill is a great example of why.

Just about every coach at the clinic mentioned how important the fast break was no matter what type of team they have or what type of offense they run. Coach after coach continued to mention the need to score points and get looks before the defense can get set.
